How did I wind up here?
My undying love for writing began at a young age. I was a self-proclaimed author by the age of eight, when I drafted my first “novel” in my parents’ basement one summer. No, seriously… I wrote over 500 pages of this thing.
I would spend countless hours glued to the monitor, fueled by the early 2000s music I downloaded from LimeWire on my third generation iPod. The only time I left that basement was to refill my bowl of mac and cheese or to go to sports practice (softball, soccer, tai Kwando, track, basketball… you name it, I tried it).
After landing my first (and last) interview with National Geographic at twelve years old, I knew that writing needed to be a part of my career. I pursued a Public Relations degree at Iowa State University (roll ‘Clones!) and loved every second of it. Now, I get to do what I love every single day.
What am I doing when I’m not writing?
I’m glad you asked. If I’m not writing, I’m:
- Powerlifting
- Hanging out with my three dogs: Scooby Doo, Gaia and McGregor (yes, after the MMA fighter)
- Traveling, usually to somewhere that I can hike
- Binge watching Shameless or the Office for the umpteenth time
Did You Know
The only contest I’ve ever won happened to be a raffle draw for two passes to the Hinterland Festival in 2021. The icing on the cake was my favorite artist replacing a band who had fallen ill last-minute. Years and years of not being picked for Character Counts raffles in elementary school paid off.
