Art Director

We’re looking for an Art Director that can interpret design needs and creative briefs and turn them into compelling creative solutions. Often overseeing multiple projects, the Art Director must be a skilled collaborator with the entire creative teams (including but not limited to creative directors, graphic designers, copywriters, content strategists, and production artists). The art director must be an effective communicator, especially when it comes to relaying creative concepts to account teams.

The Art Director reports to and collaborates with the Managing Director of Design to ensure all outputs are in line with key agency stakeholders and standards.

Responsibilities and Duties

Note: This is a full-time, on-site role located in our corporate office in downtown Des Moines, Iowa.

  • Distill abstract business concepts and client needs into creative solutions.
  • Understand detailed requirements and determine a plan that will ensure they are met.
  • Take responsibility for quality standards of output.
  • Implement pre- and post-production functions into design process.
  • Work collaboratively with vendors to ensure adherence to overall standards, works to resolve any potential unforeseen issues that may impact quality, and upholds a good working relationship.
  • Ensure that all client creative visuals are consistent with the brand.
  • Lead multiple projects from conception to completion in accordance with deadlines.
  • Ask smart questions, take risks, and champion new ideas.
  • Pitch ideas confidently, as well as communicate in the same manner to members of the creative team.
  • Be a champion of positive momentum in the design department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent years of business experience.
  • Five or more years of experience as a senior-level designer.
  • Displays a servant leadership attitude. Willing to jump in and take responsibilities off others to advance things forward when help is needed regardless of personal schedule.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate the strategy, concepts, ideas, and solutions clearly and effectively to internal teams, and clients.
  • Ability to breakdown complicated ideas into concrete design applications.
  • A solid grasp of art history, design history, photography, the visual arts, pop culture, counterculture, fluency in current technology, and a deep understanding of social tastes and current affairs.
  • Be open to receiving feedback and constructive criticism.
  • Exude and reinforce a positive attitude for the agency and creative team. Always looking at projects and requests through the lens of opportunity.
